At first glance, it doesn’t seem like an open-world survival game. Once upon a time a man has a solid weapon crafting and customization system. Let’s be straightforward: you won’t survive the apocalypse using a regular baseball bat or machete.
Defeating the otherworldly creatures will require something more sophisticated, like a fully automatic machine gun or a airy machine gun. To get your hands on one of these, you’ll need gunpowder. And Once upon a time a mangunpowder, you need to get acid. It’s a never-ending cycle where you’ll grind resource nodes until the end of the game.
To lend a hand you on your journey, we’re showing you how to grow acid using a variety of methods, including passive growing, which offers a hands-off approach after the initial setup!
Where to get acid early in the game
You won’t be able to farm acid in enormous quantities until overdue in the game. By then, you’ll have unlocked various technologies that will allow you to sift acid from polluted water, but more on that later.
At the beginning of the game the best way to get acid is to kill enemies. In low level zones, many enemy types drop acid, including:
- Pungent
- Charred Maniac
- Light
The highest likelihood of encountering a Gnawer or Charred Maniac is high, with the former always dropping a handful of acid upon death.
Alternatively, you’ll get junk from crates, trash cans, and enemies to take back to base. Once you’ve unlocked and constructed the dismantling table, cram all your unwanted
items inside and let it break everything down into usable materials. One such material is acid!
How to passively grow acid

Growing sourdough doesn’t always require manual labor. Once upon a time a man allows you to passively farm acid. To do this, you first need to find some contaminated zones.
Several areas in the game have been marked as contaminated, although they vary in level and accessibility. Several potential locations can be found nearby:
- Camp Greywater
- Lone Wolf Wasteland
- Black Fell
Typically you must reach level 20 before you can venture into a contaminated zone. Most of the technologies necessary to extract acid from contaminated zones require level four and five memetics.
To start passive acid farming, you need to unlock the following items:
- The water pump
- Reverse osmosis purifiers
- Fermentation (brewing) barrels
First, place the water pump in the contaminated water, then turn on the unit to make sure it can power the reverse osmosis purifiers. As this process progresses, contaminated acid is produced.
Unfortunately, impure acid is not good enough for making gunpowder and ammunitionIt is necessary to purify the contaminated keg using fermentation (cooker) barrels and purified water.
When all is said and done, you will have a semi-automatic acid culturing process Once upon a time a manIt takes some preparation – crafting and grinding – but it proves to be worth it when you’re pushing endgame content with enough ammo to stop the apocalypse!
