Wondering how to complete the Trial of Chaos in Path of Exile 2? As you level up your character in Path of Exile 2, you’ll unlock “Ascendancy” trials, which allow you to choose a specialized Ascendancy class for your character, complete with powerful fresh abilities. One such Trial of Domination is the Trial of Chaos, which takes place in the Temple of Chaos in Act 3.

Be careful, as the Trial of Chaos is extremely tough, so it’s crucial to know what you’re getting into. In this guide we will show you How to complete the Trial of Chaos in Path of Exile 2 and develop your character’s dominance.

The Trial of Chaos begins

There are only two Trials of Domination available in Path of Exile 2 Early Access: Trials of Sekhems and Trials of Chaos. The former will be unlocked in Act 2 of the campaign, while the latter will become available in Act 3. While you can start the trials immediately after unlocking the corresponding maps, they will still be available as final activities as they have a high level of challenge.

The Temple of Chaos is located in the Vaal Jungle from Act 3, on Chimerical swamps a map you will come across while completing the main quest “Vaal’s Legacy”. To gain access to the Temple, you must find and defeat the designated boss Xyclucian Chimerabecause you’ll need the Chimerical Written Ultimatum loot. Xyclucian is also found in the Chimeral Wetlands.

Once you have the Chimerical Written Ultimatum, Trials of Chaos the questline will begin. The first step is to find the entrance to the Temple of Chaos, which will be located somewhere on the border of the map (the exact location is random).

Inside the Temple of Chaos you will see a sacrificial altar – it looks like a stone pillar with a glowing red core (see header image). Place the Written Ultimatum on this altar to open the door to the Trial of Chaos, which will appear right next to the altar. Shortly after entering you will meet Rehearsal Masterwhich will ask you to choose one of three challenge modifiers. We’ll explain this in more detail below, but in tiny: you need to choose a modifier that will make the challenge harder, and then you’ll proceed to the first practice round.

A test of Chaos mechanics

Trial of Chaos includes the following mechanics that differ from the base game Path of Exile 2:

  • To complete the Temple of Chaos, you must survive four rounds of challenges, and in the fourth round you will encounter a boss. Challenges and boss encounters are random. While completing the fourth round is enough to gain Advantage points, you can return to the Trial of Chaos to complete more rounds later (as mentioned earlier, this extends into the endgame). Characters level 60 or higher can attempt a total of seven rounds, while characters level 75 and higher can attempt 10.
  • Before starting a fresh round, you must select a challenge modifier. Just before the Trial of Chaos begins, the Trial Master will ask you to choose one of three Tribulations that will affect you, threats, or monsters in the Temple. For example, monsters can always deal critical hits and area-of-effect attacks can decrease. Make sure you choose a Tribulation you can handle! While this partly depends on the class I choose in Path of Exile 2, I find it easier to buff my enemies than to nerf my defenses. Stay away from modifiers that reduce your life and mana regeneration and consider going for something like “Speed Monster” (monsters attack faster), “Shorter Range” (smaller area of effect and projectile speed), or “Chaotic Monsters” (monsters deal more damage Chaos). . Be careful, as each fresh round adds more Torments to the mix.

  • Complete the Trial Master Challenge. Each round has a goal, also called the Trial Master’s Challenge. You can see this goal in the upper right corner of the screen. For example, you may need to “defeat all monsters”, “collect Soul Cores”, or “survive until time runs out”. Defeating the monsters is uncomplicated enough, but the Soul Core challenge is a bit more elaborate; you’ll need to flip switches to reach the soul cores and then get them back to the altar as quickly as possible.

  • Select whether you want to continue. Once you have successfully completed a trial round, you will have the option to opt out and claim your current rewards or try another round at the risk of losing everything. If you’re here for the random Trial of Chaos rewards, don’t be too greedy! However, if you’re trying to complete the Temple of Chaos for Advantage points, it’s best to go to round 4 if you think you can do it.
  • Collect Vaal Orbs and Soul Cores. Trial of Chaos can reward you with these unique items. Vaal Kuls can be used to “corrupt” an item, thus randomly changing the item’s stats and effects, which can make it better or worse. After this date, the item cannot be changed. On the other hand, Soul Cores can be placed in equipment slots, adding unique buffs to that item.

Trial of the Chaos Bosses

After entering round 4you will encounter the first trial boss. There are three bosses in Trial of Chaos that will only appear in rounds 4, 7 and 10, but the order in which they appear is random. So if you only complete the first four rounds, you will face one of these bosses:

  • Uxmal, the Beast Lord. A very mobile boss with the appearance of a chimera. Uxmal’s most unsafe attacks include breathing fire and spitting poison, so be careful when facing him. What’s quite annoying is that Uxmal will constantly fly away throughout the battle, so it’s best to launch attacks quickly as soon as you get him in sight.
  • Chetz, the Feathered Plague. This giant bird has a powerful arsenal of physical attacks, but they are quite effortless to avoid. Its main attack is to slam its beak into the ground, thus causing bleeding in the area of effect. About halfway through the fight, Chetz will also summon a “tormentor” minion, but you can easily overtake him. It’s best to circle this boss to avoid damage from both the beak and the creature. Fortunately, Chetza is quite susceptible to elemental damage and ailments; fire spells work especially well on this boss.
  • Bahlak, the Celestial Seer. Another boss resembling a bird, but equipped with a variety of elemental attacks. Watch out for his powerful AoE skills, especially those where he summons a powerful whirlwind. It’s much easier to defeat this boss with a ranged character, but if you get stuck in melee combat, be prepared to dodge a lot.

Once you’ve defeated the bosses in the Trial of Chaos, don’t forget to employ your hard-earned Advantage points! If you have already completed the Trial of Sekhem, you should already have a total of four dominance points.
