Yep, you read that headline correctly. No, you didn’t go back in time, instead you’re seeing yet another novel title from the long-deceased Game Boy Color hit store shelves. Well, maybe not shelves, but Zephyr’s Pass is sure to be a huge hit for fans of that antique and venerable handheld console when it releases as a physical contribution today. This is thanks to publisher Incube8, who you may remember from the recent release of Kien, and developer Providential Innovations,
In Zephyr’s Pass, you’ll take on the role of Abel, a adolescent man who teams up with a band of pirates to take on a mysterious villain trying to become the God of Wind. You’ll explore the outside world and traverse Zelda-style dungeons to collect all the antique relics and gain the power you need to defeat the villain.
But what if you don’t have a Game Boy Color? Good question! And as for the answer, if you’re familiar with emulators, whether on PC or mobile, you’ll be elated to know that Zephyr’s Pass will also be available digitally! While the bedroom in this trailer seems a bit, um, melted (three guesses why), I have to give credit to the craftsmanship that went into the game itself. It certainly takes a developer with a lot of courage or a lot of passion for the venerable GameBoy Color to release a novel game for it after all these years.
