Yes, you should catch Dynamax Drilbur in Pokémon Go

Added Dynamax Drilbur Pokémon Go as part of the “Simply Groundbreaking” event, and while the release of Pokémon Dynamax and Gigantamax was a bit frustrating, it’s not a Pokémon you’ll want to miss.

There are many reasons why you should reach for Drilbur whenever you can, so let’s go through the list.

For one you don’t have to worry direct power creep. While the Kanto and Gastly starters were immediately replaced with better Gigantamax forms upon launch, you don’t have to worry about this happening to Drilbur. Excadrill, its evolved form, does not have a Gigantamax form. This is the most powerful this thing will achieve (at least in the case of Max Battles).

Full disclosure here, it’s worth mentioning that there is a Ground-type Pokémon that can Gigantamax: Sandaconda. However, we have no idea when it will be added Pokémon Gobecause the game is missing a ton of Pokémon from the Galar region at the beginning. At least your candy and Stardust won’t be wasted if you invest them in Excadrill, like they might have been if you invested in Dynamax Charizard before Gigantamax Charizard came out.

This too third best ground-type attacker (excluding Legendary Pokémon, Mega Pokémon, and Shadow Pokémon), so this will likely be a mainstay in your Max Battle lineup on long time. (For those wondering, it is currently outperformed by Garchomp and Rhyperior.) Ground-type moves are also very effective against multiple types – Poison, Rock, Steel, Fire, and Electric-type Pokémon take double damage from this move type, increasing its usefulness.

The most essential factor here is this Excadrill will be the best opponent available in the upcoming Gigantamax Toxtricity Max battlesbecause it is both poisonous and electric. If you’re planning to attend the upcoming Pokémon Go Wild Area event on November 23 and 24, you should definitely get one of these things.

Unfortunately, as it stands, Gigantamax battles can still be tough for players, especially if you’re in an area where there aren’t many other experienced players. You’ll need every competitive advantage you can get to make these fights easier, and taking advantage of a particularly robust Pokémon’s type advantage is definitely one of them.

You don’t need to build a Dynamax Excadrill army, especially since the cost of candy and Stardust is not reasonable for the average player. Grab one, power up this bad boy and aid your local raiding groups with it. Having one modestly built Excadrill will be much more helpful than bringing an unbuilt Squirtle.

Dynamax Drilbur itself is a modest battle – as a one-star rank, it’s about as tough as any other one-star raid. You should be able to defeat it even with the free Dynamax Wooloo that the game initially gave you if you don’t have any other Pokémon to employ.

Since the Dynamax Drilbur fight only costs 250 Maximum Particles, we recommend grabbing a few, even if it means focusing on only buffing one. You should be able to stockpile your Max Particles again for Toxtricity by November 23, so it doesn’t hurt to have a few spare Excadrills for later.

Even if you don’t like Max Battles, we still recommend throwing the aforementioned free Wooloo at this thing to get it. You never know when Niantic might nerf Gigantamax battles or make the feature more attractive, and you won’t want to lament the fact that you missed out on one of the easier power fighters to get if you ever want to start dipping your toe into Dynamax.
