Star Wars Outlaws’ artistic director has heard your complaints about some early stealth missions and is promising some changes.
Probably one of the most universally hated mechanics in gaming is stealth. Don’t get me wrong, a good stealth game like Metal Gear Solid or Dishonored can be sneaky fun to play, but when it comes to games where stealth isn’t the main focus, it can sometimes end up being frustrating, especially when there are moments where you can fail immediately. Star Wars Outlaws is the latest game to fall victim to this phenomenon, but thankfully it looks like some improvements will be made in a patch in the near future.

The game’s artistic director, Julian Gerighty, was recently asked by GamesRadar on the controversial stealth missions with instant fail and what the plan is for them. “So in particular, I mean, you probably think of one of the early missions in Mirogan, which is incredibly punishing,” the developer said. “And to me, that’s a bug and that’s something we’re going to work on to fix.” He continued, saying, “I don’t think it means removing the fail state entirely, but I think there’s a million low-hanging fruits where we can make it a lot more enjoyable and understandable.”
Something that is crucial to Gerighty is that the game doesn’t feel unfair, but he admitted that “today I think it feels unfair. And believe it or not, that wasn’t our intention. It’s more something that crept in over the last week or two that we’re already correcting for a patch that’ll be out maybe in 10 days.”
Sure, 10 days may seem like a long wait, but hey, at least change is coming – and if you’ve already completed the missions, you’ll be able to brag that you managed to complete them when they were worse (but don’t be that person, no one likes that kind of person).
Star Wars Outlaws came out tardy last month, and our Jim came away very positive about it, even giving it 4/5 stars in his review, saying it “won’t win any GOTY awards. But it’ll definitely win a lot of hearts.”
