Even though developer Saber Interactive is challenging at work on creating Warhammer 40K: Space Marines 2 as good as it gets, he’s managed to create a fierce novel game mode for World War Z: AftermathThe novel mode sounds like a ton of fun, but only for players ready to take on the impossible challenge.
Over the past few months, Saber Interactive has been very busy with final preparations and launching Warhammer 40K: Space Marines 2. On September 24, 2024, a novel game mode, Extinction Challenge Mode, will be released for World War Z: Aftermath. This is the ultimate challenge for players, requiring skill, determination, and knowledge of every system to have a chance of passing multiple checkpoints.
This novel mode is not designed to entertain you, but to motivate you.
Exctinction challenge mode for World War Z: Aftermath makes all the zombies more aggressive and harder to kill as a base. There’s usually a group of fairly docile or dormant zombies on every stage, regardless of difficulty. I imagine they’re gone now, and having to reload will be more of a hassle than usual when tougher, crazier hordes of the undead are rushing your way.
The real killer of this mode is that you’re now dead after just one incapacitation. You can usually be revived at several points in the level, but now you can only respawn at checkpoints. Death will be more constant, as this mode also makes it harder to tell your friends from your enemies among the crowd of bodies that are always around you.
I love World War Z: Aftermath. I love the progression systems, and every mission on every difficulty level seems perfect. Seeing as Saber Interactive continues to support it for the sake of its players, I hope to play it and Warhammer 40K: Space Marines 2 for years to come, as the developer’s latest game offers a similar development path.
Saber Interactive originally released World War Z in 2019 before the launch of the current generation version, World War Z: Aftermathin 2021. Since then, it has supported the game with a regular flow of content updates for in-game skins, Twitch Drops, and more. Since launch, it has had a fairly stable fan base thanks to receiving novel features that are just as good as Hell Divers 260 days update, but without weaknesses.
Extinction Challenge mode is just the latest example of what this developer can do when they’re allowed to listen to the community and act on their feedback. I can’t say I’m excited about the prospect of dying over and over in this game mode, but I’m very content that there are still novel experiences to be had in one of my favorite games.
