World of WarcraftNext expansion, The war withinis on its way. Before the Worldsoul Saga begins, Blizzard has released a modern animation focusing on the Nerubian kingdom of Azj-Kahet. These spider-people are going through some tough times, but a helpful character seems to be reaching out. I don’t see how this could go wrong!
We first met Xal’atath in Legion; she was trapped in a knife and used as an Artifact weapon for the Shadow Priests. We later freed Xal’atath from that knife, and she’s causing a lot of trouble. In this animation, we see her extending her hand to Queen Azj’Kahet, promising power and a return to glory. The Queen isn’t too keen on the pact, but her daughter is much more willing to seal the deal. One kill later, and Xal’atath has her alliance.
This is the story of the first raid The war within; we’ll dive deep into the Nerubian realms and raid the lair of this newly crowned Queen. However, Blizzard is clearly portraying Xal’atath as a long-time villain. We know that The war within is the first expansion in a history of three expansions centered around the Soul of the World of Azeroth. Xal’atath is not an Old God, but she is somehow clearly connected to the Void and the Black Empire. Now she has possessed the body of a dead elf and is causing all sorts of trouble that will no doubt spread and continue Midnight AND The Last Titan.
For arachnophobic players, Blizzard is adding an accessibility feature that turns the game’s spiders into crabs. While this doesn’t affect cutscenes, it should be a good way to assist players explore Azj’Kahet without being too scared.
The war within is set to release on August 26 for PC.
