This iPhone 16 Pro Max ChipsetThe A18 Pro could be eclipsed within months of its launch by the next-generation Snapdragon 8 Gen 4 processor. Worse for Apple, it’s likely to be the chip inside next year’s Samsung Galaxy S25 Ultra, boosting gaming performance above and beyond the upcoming flagship iPhone.

New report from SamMobile points to the Snapdragon 8 Gen 4 as a future S25 Ultra chip, which isn’t exactly a shock considering we’ve often seen Samsung turn to Snapdragon processors for top-of-the-line performance. Both Apple and Samsung have a history of pushing the boundaries of technology – after all, there’s a reason their flagships comfortably sit in our picks for the best 5G phones you can get. Still, it’s likely to make for some unsettling reading for Apple execs, especially with the iPhone 16 launch just around the corner.

The iPhone 16 Pro Max is rumored to be powered by the A18 Pro chip, which doesn’t offer many performance improvements to the processor, so since Samsung has chosen the best one on the market, the scales could potentially tip in favor of the chipset itself. Of course, once both devices hit the market, we’ll be sure to dig into the ins and outs of both phones in our reviews. Interestingly, Apple could still have a few more surprises up its sleeve, with the iPhone 16 expected to be officially unveiled in September. However, given that the Galaxy S24’s Snapdragon 8 Gen 3 already beats the iPhone 15 Pro Max’s 6-core GPU in terms of graphics processing, it’s not a huge shock to hear that Apple could once again come in second place in terms of performance.

Other features you can expect from the Samsung Galaxy S25 Ultra include a solid 16GB of RAM and a solid 1TB of storage. It’s also rumored to have a solid titanium frame and a brand modern design with a rounded back. It’s also rumored to have a 200MP rear camera, a 50MP telephoto camera with five levels of optical zoom, and a 50MP telephoto camera with three levels of optical zoom. We’ll compare all of this and more when Apple shares more details about the iPhone 16 next month.

We have been debating “who is better?” for a long time now and we are getting ready to compare both models just like we did when answering the same question in the context of the Samsung Galaxy S24 Ultra vs iPhone 15 Pro Max debate.
