Here’s the first trailer for the latest installment of The Office, this time the Australian version, which doesn’t look… great.
Look, we all know that the American version of The Office is an incredibly popular TV show, far surpassing the British original, but I’ll be completely sincere, I didn’t know how often it’s been remade. In addition to the British original and the American version, there have been 12 different takes on The Office, including ones from Canada, Germany, India, and Poland. And that number will soon raise to 15 in total, as the Australian remake of the show is coming out next month, and Prime Video dropped the first trailer for the mockumentary yesterday. There’s just one diminutive problem, and that’s that it’s one of the most painfully unfunny things I’ve seen in a long time.
The whole thing feels like it came straight out of a machine dedicated to churning out endless scenes from The Office , each beat more awkward than the last, and not because the show is meant to be, but because there’s such a deafeningly raucous silence where the laughs are meant to be but don’t come. Judging by the YouTube comments, there are plenty of people who agree that this particular version of the universally beloved series won’t be good or popular. Oddly enough, despite being available in 240 countries when it releases on October 18, the largest region missing it is the United States — although I don’t think all of you in the States are missing out on much.

In May, a recent US spin-off of The Office was officially ordered, allegedly titled The Paper, and last week a recent batch of cast members were confirmed, alongside Star Wars’ Domhnall Gleeson and The White Lotus’ Sabrina Impacciatore. This recent series will feature some of the original team behind the US Office, so let’s hope it does a bit better than the Australian one.
