We all got our first look at The Witcher 4 at The Game Awards last night, with a chilly novel trailer that showed Ciri – the game’s main character – witching.
Since it was originally announced with an image of a medallion in the snow, Geralt’s destiny stepdaughter taking over the reins of the series from him has been something that has long been one of the theories put forward by fans. And now we know this is true. CD Projekt explained some of the reasons why they decided to go in this direction in the game.

I’m talking to Computer gamerTW4 game director Sebastian Kalemba and executive producer Gosia Mitręga revealed that this is a roadmap that the studio first presented about ten years ago, around the time they were finishing development and releasing The Witcher 3 – which of course Ciri plays a huge role, and you can even play it over several missions.
Mitręga also highlighted some differences between Geralt and Ciri that could lend a hand the developers tell different stories, such as her youth and passion compared to veteran While Wolf in hunting monsters and the world nous that comes from dealing with so many people and scenarios.
“Because she cares so much,” the producer said, “it gives us an amazing opportunity for both us as creators and players to experience more suspense and surprises with this character, right?”
That said, don’t worry that ancient Gerry of the Riviera will be able to live out his days drinking wine away from what you’re doing in The Witcher 4 – CD Projekt has officially confirmed that it will feature in it. Kalemba didn’t provide any details on what exactly the White Wolf will be doing in the game, but insisted that Geralt is essential to both the developers and Ciri. Oh, insert that photo of Gerry giving a cheeky thumbs up that we’ve used in previous articles.
If you want to celebrate now by knowing more about the next Witcher game, why not do what I did recently and play around in The Witcher 3 with a mod that allows Geralt to turn into a centaur by blowing a vast horn. I can definitely confirm that he will play a major role in this Witcher adventure.
