Where Winds Meet is a massive open-world RPG that celebrates the Wuxia genre, a classic Chinese fiction in which super-powered martial artists fight using larger-than-life techniques.
Basically, you can think of it as a free-to-play Assassin’s Creed game, where you explore a expansive, period-set landscape, completing quests, collecting resources, and learning powerful recent skills.
But that doesn’t mean Where Winds Meet is stoic and artistic. Traveling from place to place gives a distinct flavor of fun and mischief.
Much like the eminent Drunk Monkey Kung Fu style, many of the different techniques you learn in Where Winds Meet are inspired by anthropomorphic animals. As often as you’re fighting with swords in stylized action, you’re learning Tai Chi from a honey-crazed bear or flapping like an irate wild goose.
You’re used to chasing wild geese in video games, but in Where Winds Meet the wild goose is chasing you.
With that said, however, the sheer amount of content included in Where Winds Meet makes it one of the more complicated yet fascinating free releases out there. Where other games are increasingly streamlined, the game constantly throws dense recent systems, mini-games, and game mechanics at the player, and expects you to not only exploit them all, but also remember how they fit together.
To that end, we’ve put together a list of Where Winds Meet guides to cover some of the more confusing systems, quests, character unlocks, and leveling mechanics so you can break free from the menus and get back to mastering your martial art of choice!
