When Conan the Barbarian comes to Mortal Kombat 1, superfans begin the hunt for the secret Pink Floyd ninja fight that Ed Boon has been teasing for years

Published:

When it comes to video game Easter eggs, few have anything to do with the legendary rock band Pink Floyd. But that’s exactly what Mortal Kombat 1 fans will be joyful to discover with this week’s release of guest character Conan the Barbarian.

Let’s go back for a moment. Mortal Kombat is probably best known for its various ninjas. Everyone knows that Sub-Zero is blue and Scorpion is yellow. Ermac is red and Rain is purple (see what they did there?). But there is no pink ninja and that’s where Pink Floyd comes to the rescue. Floyd is the name given to rumors about a pink ninja who was supposedly buried in the bowels of Mortal Kombat 1, just waiting to be discovered. NetherRealm’s head of development, Ed Boon, has repeatedly teased fans by referencing a pink ninja named Floyd, and in 2023 TheThiny Mortal Kombat Data Explorer text was unearthed in the Mortal Kombat 1 files that referred to a character named Floyd.

Now it looks like Floyd may finally become a reality in Mortal Kombat 1. Recently released gameplay of Conan the Barbarian features a “Floyd” pop-up with blink-and-you’ll-miss-it pink text displayed on the left side of the screen. Bewildered fighting game YouTuber Super which Conan Early Access gameplay included the name Floyd, took to social media to express their excitement.

Listen carefully and during the cutscene of Conan’s victory, you’ll hear a guitar riff next to Floyd’s pop-up. Super had no idea how they activated it and couldn’t recreate it, but Mortal Kombat 1 fans are determined to get to the bottom of this mystery once Conan shows up tomorrow.

Of course it’s quite possible there Is there is no secret Pink Floyd fight that can be activated, and this Floyd tease is just that: a tease. Boon is known for trolling Mortal Kombat fans, and the show is full of pop culture references and jokes that go nowhere. Data miners like TheThiny can be expected to kick in if anything related to Floyd changes after the Conan update goes live, but players will still need to discover the activation if it exists at all.

Conan the Barbarian, which will be released on January 21 as part of the standard Early Access DLC period for owners of the Mortal Kombat 1: Khaos Reigns expansion and then available a week later, features the likeness of Arnold Schwarzenegger, who famously played Conan in the 1982 cult classic film. but his voice is not there.

The T-1000 Terminator is the latest DLC character added to the bloody fighting game as part of the Khaos Reigns expansion, and follows playable fighters Cyrax, Sektor, Noob Saibot, Ghostface, and the aforementioned Conan the Barbarian. NetherRealm has yet to announce the third set of DLC characters.
