Marvel Rivals combines the hero shooter genre with some of comics’ most renowned and infamous heroes and villains. Players can take control of Captain America, Spider-Man, Moon Knight and more to face a multi-faceted threat in this third-person game Overwatch-like.

The premiere will be global at at midnight UTC December 6and the game will be available simultaneously on Epic Games Store, PlayStation 5, Steam and Xbox Series X.
What to expect from Marvel Rivals
Marvel Rivals is a third-person shooter and multiplayer game. You will select players to play with a team of six, and then each player will choose a hero from the Marvel Comics universe. Only one person can play as an individual hero on each team, so you can’t play a game filled with Spider-Man (at least not at launch).
Heroes fit into one of three roles:
Once your team and heroes load up, you’ll be tasked with completing one of several different objective modes, such as capturing a point on several different maps or escorting a chariot. In Quick Match, each team plays only one team, and the winner is determined by whether the attacking or defending side wins. However, in competitive queue, matches consist of multiple rounds of a specific goal, and the winner is determined by who wins the most rounds.
If you know Blizzard Overwatch and other hero shooters, Marvel Rivals should have a similar experience. However, the renowned Marvel characters (all of which have quite unique visual designs) and the third-person perspective give the game a fresh feel, so you’re not guaranteed to love or hate it based on your feelings about other games in the genre.
Marvel Rivals is also based on a seasonal model. At launch, Season 0, “Doom’s Rise,” will last approximately one month. Season 1 begins in early January 2025, will last three months and will add recent maps, heroes and abilities.
