Sony has released a modern patch for the PlayStation 5 that will hopefully resolve the graphics issues caused by a recently released firmware update.
Firmware update 06/24/10.00.00, which added features including the Welcome Hub to PS5, has caused technical issues in Square Enix’s Final Fantasy 16.
A ton of users have reported issues, including entire sections of the screen being covered in black squares and the game freezing when loading a save file or speedy traveling. Similar bugs have appeared on Ubisoft’s Star Wars: OutlawsHello Games No Man’s SkyKojima Productions Death on the beachand other games.
At the time, Square Enix confirmed it was working with Sony to resolve the issues introduced by the firmware update, saying, “Following the recent release of a PlayStation 5 system update, there have been reports of game freezes and graphical issues. We are currently working with Sony Interactive Entertainment to investigate and sincerely apologize for any inconvenience. Please stay tuned for our further updates.”
Today, September 20, Sony released a modern update for PS5 (Version: 24.06-10.01.00) that appears to address the issues. Sony’s patch notes are brief and vague:
Version: 24.06-10.01.00
- We have improved the performance and stability of the system software.
It’s a busy time for Sony’s games business, with the recently announced PS5 Pro set to launch in November, as well as the eye-catching PlayStation 30th Anniversary Edition PS5 and PS5 Pro. On the gaming front, Astro Bot has just been released, as well as God of War Ragnarök on PC. Firewalk’s hero shooter Concord has been pulled from the web after a disastrous launch, though.
