Warhammer 40,000: Space Marine 2 features the Ultramarines and Captain Demetrian Titus (now demoted to lieutenant after the original game) entering the breach to face the Tyranid hordes invading the Imperial worlds of Avarax and Kadak. While he may have been demoted, Titus underwent the Rubicon Primaris process, intended to transform him into a taller, stronger, and faster Primaris Space Marine – a relatively up-to-date twist to the narrative in the 42nd millennium, following the return of the Primarchs.

Brother-Sergeant Gadriel and Brother Chairon fight alongside Tytus. All of this trio can be controlled by the player, as Space Marine 2 features a three-player co-op mode.

This up-to-date overview also covers the PvE Operations and PvP Eternal War modes. Both offer six playable classes – Tactical, Assault, Vanguard, Bulwark, Sniper and Heavy – and also rely on a customization system for your own Space Marine. It’s not just cosmetics, but will allow you to upgrade your weapons through play with a shared progression system. Post-launch, Saber will roll out content updates that will add more operational missions, PvP maps, weapons, and more

Space Marine 2 was revealed in 2021 and is being developed by Saber Interactive, a studio best known for World War Z and Snowrunner. The horde element from World War Z certainly plays a role in Space Marine 2, being able to boast the masses of irate aliens that the Tyranids are eminent for – we’ll certainly have much more great action than was possible in the 2011 original.

Dom had the opportunity to work on Space Marine 2 at Gamescom, writing: “Combat in Space Marine 2 is bluntly brutal and focuses on the risk and reward of execution to replenish your skill bank. Blood is flying everywhere, which is no surprise when Space Marines are packing swords with built-in chainsaws and machine guns with fist-sized ammunition. There’s a cool parry move to take advantage of, and you’ll need to vary your approaches as you deal with larger and larger Tyranid enemies. They behave as you would expect, like a flood of alien locusts swarming towards you, eager to reduce you to litter. Then you better do it to them first!”
