Hello everyone! My name is Juan Martinez, executive producer at Fatshark and member of the Warhammer 40,000: Darktide team. I’d like to welcome all PlayStation players to the four-player co-op Grimdark mode we’ve created.

Today we opened access to Warhammer 40,000: Dark Tide for PS5 players who pre-ordered the Imperial Edition. We’re excited to announce that the game will be available to all PS5 players on December 3.

Darktide originally launched on PC in November 2022, and since then we’ve been working non-stop to expand the game, including nine major expansions and over 25 updates worth of content and improvements. The PS5 release coincides with the release of our tenth major free update: Grim Protocols. We have even more for you in the coming years!

Fast-paced Fatshark style combat

For years we have dreamed of creating a game set in the Warhammer 40,000 universe, and thanks to Darktide we managed to make this dream come true. Darktide is a cooperative action game for four players in which you play the role of a conscript – Outcast – serving the Inquisition in reclaiming the city of Tertium, which has fallen victim to the hordes of Chaos. To survive, you’ll need to switch between melee and ranged combat, a hybrid system we’ve worked tough to perfect.

Warhammer 40,000: Darktide launches on PS5 and PS5 Pro

When creating Darktide for PS5, we focused on providing players with the best possible experience. We’ve spent a lot of time and effort making the game compatible with PS5 hardware. PS5 users have the freedom to choose between Performance mode (running at 60 frames per second in 1440p resolution) and Quality mode (running at 30 frames per second in 4K resolution). For those of you who have a PS5 Pro, we used PSSR technology to make Warhammer 40,000: Darktide run at a constant 60 frames per second in 4K resolution.

We also spent a lot of time with the adaptive triggers and touch features of the DualSense wireless controller. Our team wants the DualSense controller to feel like a natural extension of the Warhammer 40,000: Darktide experience. From the iconic Boltgun that fires explosive projectiles to the precise accuracy of the energy-based Lasgun or the Power Staff that imparts psionic powers, each weapon delivers a unique experience every time you switch gear.

Automatic weapons have never worked as well as they do with the DualSense controller’s haptic rumble and trigger effects. Feel the triggers shake with every shot and feel the rumble in the DualSense controller. As ammo drops, triggers become more intense, so you always know when you’re out of ammo. The feeling of the Chain Sword’s spinning blades and the tactile feel of the blade cutting through the flesh of heretics and demons is pure, macabre pleasure. We can’t wait to see your reactions to these features when they launch on December 3.

Unlock your potential

To make you feel at home on Tertium, we’ve included a huge number of options in the character creator so you can customize your Reject’s in-game appearance, including his class, appearance, background story, and voice. We want to enable players to become part of this world and its conflict in a more personal way.

Each class has its own complicated talent tree, allowing you to further customize your playstyle across the three main domains (or subclasses) and everything in between. We’ve also expanded your freedom of choice with Item Rework, which lets you gain experience in any of the 40+ weapon families you want to become proficient in.

A constantly evolving game

December 3rd marks both the launch of the game on PlayStation and the release of our tenth major update: Grim Protocols, which introduces a ton of novel content. Here’s a look at what we have in store!

We will introduce a novel endgame mode called Havoc, where the most experienced agents test their mettle. Be ready to face arduous challenges! But first you need to master Tertium.

A novel mission will be added to our list of over 20 missions, challenging the Rejects to discover the carnival, a celebrated entertainment area, a place where you go for a bit of relaxation and a lot of illegal fun.

Three novel weapon families will be added, allowing you to tear through waves of enemies with the devastating force of the Two-Handed Swords of Might and Power and Ogrin’s Heavy Stubber.

Follow our official PS5 news to stay up to date with all the content coming in 2025. Warhammer 40,000: Darktide officially arrives on PS5 on December 3. Welcome to Tertium, Rejects, we hope you survive the challenges ahead. For the emperor!
