Warframe has been steadily updated since its 2013 launch, but Digital Extreme’s next set of planned updates could be one of its most ambitious yet. According to this year’s TennoCon, an annual convention celebrating Warframe (and now a sister project Soul Frame), we expect three more updates in 2024.
The first of these updates, Lotus Eaters, will set the stage for an upcoming, overarching storyline that will culminate in an incredibly ambitious multiverse Warframe 99.
Lotus Eaters will feature a brief mission that will serve as a bridge to the previous one. Whispers in the walls story of long-time antagonist The Man in the Wall with the upcoming Warframe 99. We don’t know much about this August update, other than the fact that our space mom Lotus will likely be involved in some form or another. The update will also add Sevagoth Primes; Primes are more powerful variations of the original Warframes and are sought after for their improved stats and frosty cosmetics.
A second, unnamed update is planned after Lotus Eaters. This update is even more mysterious, and we won’t learn much more about it until Digital Extremes’ debut presentation at Tokyo Game Show. This update will include a Caliban rework for one of the less popular Warframes in the game, and all players will receive Caliban for free.
Finally, in the winter of 2024 we can expect visually pioneering Warframe 99. This alternate history Earth takes place in a 1999 version that is very clearly inspired by the anime and the Metal Gear series. Six Protoframes, humans fused with Warframe suits, form a syndicate called Hex. Players will be able to exploit an AIM-style chat client to learn more about each Protoframe, and even romance them for a New Year’s kiss.
It’s an intriguing time to be Warframe fan. After starting Digital Extremes New Warmany long-standing questions and crises in Warframe have been wrapped up in one form or another. But the game clearly has a ton of life left in it — and the injection of ’90s energy, boy band and all, is just a sign of how unpredictable this journey is.
