Walkthrough of the Sir Ansbach storyline in Elden Ring: Shadow of the Erdtree

Mr. Ansbach is one of many NPCs in Ring of Fire‘S The shadow of the Erd tree DLC. You will meet him at the beginning of your adventure – in The burial plain — and if you follow his lead, he’ll be with you throughout the entire expansion.

Sir Ansbach is challenging to miss because he stands next to a gigantic Miquella’s Cross apart from Squirtthe first substantial dungeon you’ll most likely encounter The shadow of the Erd tree.

As you approach the castle gates, keep to the left and look for a compact cliff. Here you can officially meet Sir Ansbach – Lord Mohg’s former servant – and Moore, the shopkeeper in Main Cross Gate Place of Grace. Talk to Ansbach to learn a little more about him and his interests. He’ll tell you he’s been researching the Miquella Crosses and will ask you to visit them and report on any secrets you find.

This is an optional part of Sir Ansbach’s quest, which somewhat overlaps with the quest of another NPC, Hornsent. In the first half The shadow of the Erd tree The Hornsent DLC will give you a map showing the locations of several hidden Miquella Crosses. If you find them, interact with them, then speak to Sir Ansbach for additional knowledge.

Regardless of whether you gain additional lore or not, once you introduce yourself to Sir Ansbach you can continue through the main story until the great rune breaks outside of Shadowkeep.

As you approach the Shadow Keep dungeon in Scadu Altusyou will receive a notification that the great rune was broken. That’s how it should be – you did nothing wrong – and it will advance all the various NPC quests in the world, including Ansbach.

Return to Ansbach and talk to him until he starts repeating himself. If you rest, he will disappear. You will run into Sir Ansbach again in Shadow Keep, on the first floor Sample warehouse area.

To reach the Ansbach research corner, head from Warehouse, first floor, place of gracebehind the vast beast, up the stairs on the left, then hang just behind the first bookshelf. You’ll find him reading in the corner of a compact room. Exhaust his dialogue once more before continuing through the warehouse.

To continue Sir Ansbach’s quest, you must first find Scroll of the Arcane Ritual. Luckily, you’re already in the right place to locate it: Shadow Keep Specimen Storehouse. Head to Warehouse, fourth floor, place of grace.

From the mercy seat, turn left and follow the path past the flaming boats and enemies. Go up the next set of stairs and continue forward. To the left, you’ll find a set of stairs leading down, away from the main path. Go up these stairs and defeat the enemies on the landing pad below. Go into the nearby passage to find compact research library.

Head towards the edge, but be careful not to fall. On the right, on the table, you will see a purple pillar of airy. Interact with it to get Scroll of the Arcane Ritual.

With the Arcane Ritual Scroll in hand, return to Sir Ansbach on the first floor. When you speak with him, you will be given the option to give it to him. Give Sir Ansbach the scroll and learns that Lord Mohg’s body has been stolen and Miquella has plans for him.

Before you proceed to the next step, familiarize yourself with the Ansbach dialogue.

Time to support Redmane Freyja, another NPC who has a quest of her own.

After breaking the Great Rune, you can speak to Freyja at the Three-Path Cross Site of Grace in Gravesite Plain to send her to Shadow Keep. You will meet Freyja at seventh floor Specimens Storehousejust beyond the place of grace. She will be bent over by the fireplace, looking through some objects and mumbling loudly to herself.

If you talk to her, she’ll tell you she’s busy, then complain that she didn’t talk to Ansbach when she had the chance. Go down to the first floor and tell Ansbach about Freyja’s frustrations. Exhaust his dialogue, then rest. Return to Ansbach and he’ll give you a letter intended for Freyja.

If he doesn’t give you a letter After resting, talk to Freyja again before talking to Ansbach.

Bring Freyja’s letter to continue her quest, then talk to her until you exhaust her dialogue. She’ll give you Golden Lion Shield for your trouble. You should return to Ansbach and tell him about Freyja’s reaction to his letter.

Once you have completed all of Ansbach’s tasks in Shadowkeep, visit Leda In Highroad Cross Site of Graceoutside Ensis Castle. Talk to her a few times and she’ll eventually reveal that it’s time to hunt down our buddy Ansbach. Once she asks for your support, the quest will start, so head back to Ansbach’s hideout in Shadow Keep.

When you arrive, Ansbach will not be there. Instead, you will find red summon marker and gold summon token.

If you want to see the end of Ansbach’s quest, go past the red summoner and interact with the gold – “help Sir Ansbach.” This will take you to the arena in Specimen Storehouse. Ansbach will be there with you, and Leda will appear as Invader. Work with Ansbach to defeat her.

When you return to your world, Sir Ansbach will still be gone, but you will receive Ansbach’s Longbow AND Leda’s Rune (worth 40,000 runes).

After defeating Leda and defending Ansbach, you have completed most of the skippable steps in the Ansbach quest.
