Virtua Fighter 5 REVO will debut in the series on the Steam platform

Sega today announced that the iconic Virtua Fighter series will be coming to Steam for the first time with Virtua Fighter 5 REVO. Described as the “definitive edition of this legendary game,” Virtua Fighter 5 REVO will support netcode rollback and 4K graphics with “updated character.” models, scenes and films.”

A specific release date hasn’t been confirmed, but Sega’s announcement said it will take place sometime during the Northern Hemisphere winter.

The news comes from Sega’s official social media channels.

Virtua Fighter 5 REVO may currently be available on your Steam wishlistwhere it was also confirmed that players will be able to compete with up to 16 other players in recent online modes, including tournaments and leagues.

First released in arcades in 2006, the original Virtua Fighter 5 was then ported to the PS3 and Xbox 360 in 2007. The first version called Virtua Fighter 5 R appeared in 2008, quickly followed by the erroneously titled Virtua Fighter 5 Final Showdown in 2010 (though it didn’t hit home consoles until 2012). In 2021, Final Showdown was remastered for PS4 in 2021 as Virtua Fighter 5 Ultimate Showdown, but now the “definitive edition” of Virtua Fighter 5 will actually be the upcoming Virtua Fighter REVO, if that makes sense.

Earlier this month, Sega announced that “the next Virtua Fighter” is in the works, although it’s currently unclear whether this was a reference to today’s announcement or the long-awaited sequel.
