Vice Presidential Candidate Tim Walz Dusts Off His Controller to Stream Crazy Taxi on Twitch: “Republicans Will Accuse Me of Never Owning a Dreamcast or Something”

Tim Walz, Democratic presidential candidate Kamala Harris, declared appearance on Congresswoman Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez’s Twitch channel today. The two mostly talked about the upcoming election, but they also spent some time playing Madden NFL ’25 and Walz’s outright favorite, Crazy Taxi.

“You can pick these characters and I discovered this – this might be the coolest thing that ever happened to me – there’s a character I there,” Walz said as he launched Crazy Taxi, likely in reference to Edward La Barbera’s mod that aimed to put a vice presidential candidate in the game.

Though clearly a little rusty, Walz put in a solid performance, racking up a couple of hits. He made a great time on his first passenger, but failed to stick the landing, overshooting his stop. “I’m terrible, I don’t know Xbox controllers,” he offered. Controller Johns at its best, but come on, we’ve all been there. Walz also noted that he appreciated the slapstick chaos of driving Crazy Taxi after something more realistically violent like Grand Theft Auto. “I’m like a taxi driver in New York: I drive against traffic,” Ocasio-Cortez joked.

– It’s a bit retro, isn’t it? He then asked Ocasio-Cortez, which brought back memories for me of all the times I tried to show someone old, crappy games I liked. Walz also urged viewers to buy Crazy Taxi themselves, saying, “If you don’t have it, go get this game, people, it’s really sweet.”

Walz also recalled the first time he got the game and his Dreamcast: “It was the first time I had a real job – I was an adult – and I had money. I was married and my wife didn’t really approve of it. ” He eventually brought the system to his workplace when his wife asked him to take it out of the house, although it appears to have been lost over the years. Walz joked that the fog could come back to haunt him in the election: “Republicans will accuse me of never having had a Dreamcast or something.”
