Until Dawn PS5 and PC Remake Gets Season of the Spooks Release Date, Shows Off New Unreal Engine 5 Graphics in Comparison Trailer

Published:

If you can’t wait to see the Until Dawn remake, we have some good news: we finally have a release date and a trailer showing off the changes.

Back in May, during PlayStation State of Play, a remake of the 2015 horror game from Supermassive Games was announced, despite it not even being a decade venerable yet, but hey ho, that’s the way the industry is these days. No release date was announced, but this morning PlayStation confirmed on the official site PlayStation Blog that you’ll finally be able to play it on October 4th, on both PS5 and PC. The announcement comes in conjunction with a fresh trailer, which you can watch below, comparing and contrasting various scenes between the original and the remake.

The first obvious difference is that the graphics look a bit better, as the game has been re-lit and rebuilt using Unreal Engine 5. “One of our key visual improvements in Until Dawn was to revisit the character models and bring them up to date with modern advances in character modeling and rendering,” the blog post explains.

There’s also a reworked prologue, as the team felt it “would benefit from some changes in the pacing of the story. We gave the Washingtons more screen time to explore their close family bond and get to know them a little better. We also reworked some of the original scenes and expanded the context around the infamous joke.”

You may also notice that some scenes are now shot differently, some with completely fresh camera angles, others with minor tweaks. There are also some gameplay moments that exploit a typical third-person camera rather than a fixed camera angle.

Most importantly, there are fresh collectibles and accessibility and usability settings coming to the game, but no details about them have been revealed yet.

Until Dawn remake launches October 4 for PS5 and PC.
