The ninja from the upcoming Assassin’s Creed Shadows game will be, according to Ubisoft, the fastest assassin it has ever unleashed on unsuspecting guards and mission targets in their compact, historical fantasy world.
I’m talking to Entertainment WeeklyJonathan Dumont, innovative director of Assassin’s Creed Shadows, said that “Naoe is the fastest assassin we’ve ever created,” then added: “She runs very fast, has a lot of gadgets that allow her to hide, so she doesn’t have to fight a lot. We wanted to cater to that for players who come to this ninja-assassin game.
Dumont also suggested that Naoe would run leaning forward with his hands behind his back, similar to the style made famous by its ubiquitous presence in the Naruto anime.
Assassin’s Creed Shadows will feature two playable characters: deuteragonists Yasuke, a swashbuckling melee samurai based on the historical figure who plays like warriors from recent Assassin’s Creed games; and the fictional Naoe, who seems more likely to appear as a traditional assassin befitting earlier games in the series: she’s good at stealth, but gets into trouble if she’s fighting four or five enemies at once.
Assassin’s Creed Shadows will be released on February 14, 2025, and the action takes place during the Sengoku (“warring states”) period of Japanese history.
That’s another thing we love about Naoe, the character who most reminds us of when Ubisoft created its biggest stealth game franchise, Splinter Cell. Shadows, as the name suggests, will finally allow you to hide in shadowy areas and turn off the lights to remain hidden à la Splinter Cell.
If you’re surprised that a substantial title like Assassin’s Creed is coming out so early in the year, well, it’s been delayed a bit, and 2025 is absolutely packed with massive games.
