Turok is back, but the notable dinosaur hunter looks a little different. At Thursday’s Game Awards, Saber Interactive officially announced Turok: Origins, a “new evolution” of the classic dinosaur hunting series that first debuted on Nintendo 64 and PC in 1997.
In a marked change to the series, Turok: Origins will feature third-person action instead of being a first-person shooter. Additionally, multiplayer will be fully integrated into the main campaign, and Turok will be able to support up to three players in co-op.
Turok: Origins’ titular hero will don a high-tech “biomorphic suit” that allows him to apply DNA captured from enemies, giving him abilities such as the power to summon lightning. It will feature semi-open environments where different planets will be connected by portals. Saber Interactive also promises “pretty epic boss fights.”
Turok: Origins is in development for the Xbox Series PC in 2008 by the equally defunct Disney Interactive (under its extremely short-lived Touchstone Games label). Although a planned sequel was canceled following the closure of developer Propaganda Games, the original N64-era Turok trilogy has been remastered for up-to-date devices by game restoration specialists Nightdive Studios over the past decade.
Turok: Origins does not have a release date yet. You can read all the other information announced at The Game Awards 2024 here, as well as our full list of winners.
