I went with the upcoming cooperative of the third person Turok: originT Gamescom 2025 . Although I am not a mega fan of the Dino-Slaying series, I liked many of her earliest entries, including the Nintendo 64 trilogy, and even dividing a multi-person unit Turok: Furious wars.
In addition to the designated spin-off game 2019, the series has been largely dormant since 2008 Turok for seventh generation consoles. Now he is coming back Turok: origin, Thanks to the kindness of programmers and publisher of Sabre Interactive, with the date of release, regardless of this.
Cutting vital details, Turok: origin She is a shooter focused on cooperation for a maximum of three players. You choose a specific character for the class – each with your own weapon and skill rental – and you load on the map on which you need to fill in a linear series of goals before you face the culmination of the boss.
My experience with the game is largely positive so far. Planting prehistoric creatures and a hostile race similar to a soldier is a lot of fun; Fast weapons and animations seem extremely skillful and I think that the choice of a third person’s perspective is clever.
However, I have some concerns primarily in the case of environmental design. The maps seem rather gray and the same from an aesthetic point of view, and were also incredibly obscure, which makes it complex to see enemies hiding in the shade or overgrown flora.
Even during my compact session, Origin He began to feel a bit repetitive, so I am not sure of the game replay. But if Sabre Interactive is Paznachers, it can be one of the best cooperative games of recent years.
Hit them with a brain destroyer
For now, let’s focus on good. The fight seems really good in Turok: origin. The characters of the players are equipped with a wide range of types of weapons, including shotguns, rifles, arches and iconic staples of the series, such as a brain hole – a terrifyingly cruel instrument that literally sucks the brain from the skull of the enemy.
When I asked the artistic director Jesús Iglesias if the hole would be as overwhelmed as in previous entries, he did not hesitate to loudly excited “Yes!” Usually, the developer may want to provide a certain balance for a powerful weapon, but I appreciate the fact that Saber seems to have as much respect for this legendary destruction tool as Turok Fans of the series do.
The good news is that Sabre Interactive clearly has a lot of love for the source material. The variety of dinosaurs is impressive, and each type offers its own challenge. Some prefer to charge you at a break, while others hang and try to get an advantage of height, falling down acidic acid.
Therefore, I will notice that spatial awareness is the key to success. Origin Maps (at least from what I played) are designed with at least two vertical layers. The coordinated team of three definitely has the best chance of success here, because you will probably have to cause priority threats and share the team’s attention based on the skills of individual characters.
For example, one class was ideal for close fighting. Their skills allowed them to strengthen their own damage. Another seemed better focused on the control of the crowd, capable of reborn barriers to limit the movements of the enemy. In insulation, all straightforward things are, but in cooperative conditions synergy, these skills definitely strengthened the playing factor.
Welcome to the jungle
The overall mission progression was quite straightforward because we went from a dense jungle to the hidden temple before they stood in the face of the colossal stegosaur Cyborg (yes, really) in a huge round arena. The goals ranged from the usual activation of a set of nodes after killing a number of enemies.
The basic nature of these goals seems to be fine for an early game, but more concerned about the project itself. Environment (especially external) are nice, but also somewhat reminiscent of maze and repeatable by nature. I could not refrain from noticing that it was straightforward to lose sight of enemies among dense leaves, leaving for several unexpected attacks. Although honestly, it can be purposeful from the developer.
Even more annoying was that the environments seemed too obscure. Of course, these could be the monitors in which we played, but the general lack of lithe sources certainly did not aid when it comes to seeing enemies or goals.
Fortunately, things increased again when we fought with the aforementioned head of Stegosaurus. The high creature had a lot of armor and they were not afraid to literally throw the weight.
My team had to really struggle with the fight mechanics, relaxing the armor to reveal delicate points for a larger sum of damage. On this front, saving powerful skills when we needed them the most was crucial. If your teammate falls, you can revive them, but it can be complex in such an intense battle.
To aid, ammunition is a universal resource in all weapons, complementing by eating yellow plants scattered on the battlefield. However, it is also (together with the blue-shells of medicinal plants) it is in itself a circumscribed resource. We still had to be careful not to play too quickly and loosely with our resources and our lives.
Yet, Turok: origin It seems that it will be a pleasant experience for three friends. I am not sure if it will stay so well in the game solo (which is served) and I hope that the levels and goals become more ambitious as the game progresses. But I would definitely like to play more when it eventually starts on PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X | S and PC.
