I think it’s unthreatening to say that Trigger Happy Interactive’s upcoming survival horror Total Chaos is a slight change from their last offering – the crazy, neon-drenched Turbo Overkill with chainsaw legs. Still, it’s not often that psychological horror meets ultraviolence, and anything that even hints at Condemned: Criminal Origins catches my attention.
Total Chaos started life as a popular one Mod for Doom 2and while I’d argue that this game’s limitations sell the atmosphere a bit better than this much sleeker update, I certainly trust Trigger Happy enough to take full advantage of the up-to-date engine. The game takes place in New Oasis, a “once bustling mining haven” that is certainly not bustling or paradise-like these days.
There’s a survival horror game in play where you’ll have to get your own makeshift weapons to take on a wide range of horrors, including giant spiders and dudes wearing skull masks – a telltale sign of only the baddest dudes. Maybe these are actually their real faces. I’m not yet privy to the lore of deep guys. Here are some features via Steam page: :
- Immersive Atmosphere: Explore the nightmarish ruins of Fort Oasis in nine harrowing chapters, each of which plunges you deeper into its oppressive, decaying world.
- Environmental Storytelling: Discover the island’s darkest secrets and confront your own shattered past through mysterious notes, haunting images, and disturbing encounters.
- Crafting for Survival: Build and upgrade weapons using the materials you gather for a chance to fight the merciless terrors that stalk you.
- Confront Nightmare Enemies: Engage in desperate battles against terrifying creatures, each with their own deadly behaviors and strategies.
- Resource Management: Navigate a deep inventory system where every item matters – your survival depends on careful choices and quick thinking.
The Steam page also has the word “Terrormare” on it, which, um, I won’t blame them. Total Chaos coming soon. I would say “not fast enough!” but I don’t know how brisk they mean, so that would probably be a lie. I’m not sure. I’m not taking any chances.
