Two novel games based on the Halloween series were announced yesterday, and one of them, a pixel-art platformer, has already been revealed.
Yesterday, Evil Dead: The Game creator Boss Team Games announced that they were working on two games based on the Halloween series, one of which would be developed in Unreal Engine 5 and even brought in the aid of the original film’s director, John Carpenter. While still shrouded in mystery, that game had more details, but today the second game was revealed on IGNand it turns out to be a 16-bit arcade platformer from the 90s. In the game titled RetroRealms: Halloween, you take on the role of the infamous Michael Myers, who slices up anyone he meets with his trusty knife.
This isn’t the only game Boss Team Games has announced, as the RetroRealms brand is getting a second game, the second also being a 16-bit pixel platformer, once again adapting Evil Dead. Ash Williams once again gets his hands on a chainsaw, battling the undead and more – it looks like basically the same game, albeit in a different setting, and Michael Myers and Ash play slightly differently. It’s also worth noting that Shantae series creator WayForward is helping to develop it, so it seems like it’s in good hands.

You’ll be able to buy each of the games individually for $24.99 each, or you can buy them in a Double Feature Bundle, which costs $49.99. Technically, buying the bundle is a penny more high-priced, but that way you can play as any character in their respective games. Pre-ordering the games will also let you play as Laurie Strode from Halloween and Kelly Maxwell from Ash vs Evil Dead as bonus DLC characters.
“Everyone at Boss Team Games is a huge horror fan, and working on these iconic franchises is a dream come true,” said Steve Harris, CEO of Boss Team Games, in a press release. “Working with WayForward and our licensors has been an incredible experience, creating not one, but two fast-paced, ’90s arcade-style games while staying true to the original Halloween movie and the Ash vs. Evil Dead franchise. The trailer, out today, gives fans a taste of the blood-soaked, fast-paced action and gameplay, and we can’t wait to show you more!”
Both titles also have a release date aligned with the season – they will launch on October 18 and will be available on PC, PS5, Switch, and Xbox.
