This Half-Life 2-themed RTX 4080 Super almost makes up for the fact that we’re approaching the game’s 20th anniversary and Half-Life 3 is still nowhere in sight

The 20th anniversary of Half-Life 2 is approaching, and if it makes you feel ancient, it probably is. But good news: Nvidia is giving away a custom Half-Life 2-themed RTX 4080 Super Founders Edition card that will make you feel better about your own mortality and the lack of Half-Life 3.

To celebrate the game’s 20th anniversary in a few days on November 16 (it was first released on this day in 2004), Nvidia has added some rust to its second most powerful graphics card, the RTX 40 series. It sounds silly, but it’s really cute.

It also features Gordo’ Freeman above the nameplate and a compact Half-Life 2 logo for good measure. As the centerpiece of a rusty Half-Life themed build, it could look quite great.

Nvidia has some skin in the game here too. This is both a celebration of Valve’s crowning achievement and a chance for it to talk about the game it works closely with the developers on: Half-Life 2 RTX.

Orbifold Studios is remaking Half-Life 2 with brand modern assets and lighting, taking full advantage of the latest Nvidia RTX graphics cards. This is a huge project and the modding team at Orbifold has a lot of work ahead of them. They are usually always looking for more modders to facilitate, although they also exploit Nvidia’s RTX Remix toolkit to ease this burden.

I spoke with the Orbifold Studios and Nvidia team about RTX Remix and Half-Life 2 RTX earlier this year. So if you want to learn more about this topic, I recommend reading the related article. You can also watch their latest video paying tribute to Half-Life 2.

You can now also create a wish list Half-Life 2 RTX on the modern game page on Steamwhich suggests that the game is getting closer to its actual release. However, we do not know the specific date yet.

If you want a chance to put the gloves on this graphics card, please read the terms and conditions Here.
