Pokémon creator of Freak games suffered a massive data breach in which employee information was stolen from the developer, as well as tons of details about previous games and upcoming sequels. Fans are calling the leaked data “Teraleak” as confidential accounts sift through everything from unused Pokémon designs to the Switch 2 codename and the ramifications of a malicious hack spreading across the Internet.
Over the weekend, an unprecedented data breach was discovered and leaked onto the Internet. Pokémon Social media accounts of insiders and leak hunters began sifting through the contents, reportedly finding, among other things, the Switch 2 codename “Ounce,” which refers to the Gen 10 Pokémon game codenamed “Gaia”. Pokémon Legends: A.S is the next officially announced game in the series, scheduled for release in 2025, though some say leaks suggest it was originally scheduled for a winter 2024 release before being postponed. The hacked materials also apparently refer to a project called “Synapse”, which appears to be another unannounced spin-off game.
The leak also reportedly includes plenty of details about the upcoming anime series and live-action spin-offs, including for a second plot details Detective Pikachu film and a reference to a potential live-action film codenamed “Game Boy.” The leak also reportedly contains the source code for DS games Pokémon HeartGold AND Silver of the soulbut also Black 2 AND White 2. However, in the coming weeks and months, fans will likely spend most of their time sifting through tons of design documents, internal discussions, and artwork for the castoffs Pokémon projects that potentially offer insight into the infamous secret game development process.
Game Freak, The Pokémon Company and Nintendo did not immediately respond to requests for comment.
Game Freak, which in addition to making games also owns a stake in the franchise along with Nintendo and The Pokémon Company, previously issued a statement on October 10 in which it admitted that some employee data had been stolen, but made no mention of anything else that was allegedly be taken away in the hack, which seemingly took place in August. As he translated VGCthe studio said that more than 2,000 employee records were subject to “unauthorized third-party access” and that it had contacted those affected. “We sincerely apologize for any inconvenience and concern this situation may have caused to all involved,” the statement read.
Hack Game Freak follows a series of high-profile data breaches at major gaming companies in recent years, including Cyberpunk 2077 producer CD Projekt Czerwony, Spider-Man 2 producer Games for insomniaAND Grand Theft Auto VI producer Rockstar Games. But it is a reminder of the scale of what was likely leaked in this attack 2020’s shocker “Gigaleak.” Thanks to this, a lot of aged information about Nintendo’s development has appeared on the Internet. The result was a ton of discovery abandoned concepts AND canceled matchesand references taken out of context like a pixel art of Toad smoking a cigarette.
While Nintendo is not immune to online leaks, they usually result from upcoming games that accidentally end up in the public’s hands before release.
