Dark Horse’s fancy novel Cyberpunk: Edgerunners statue is one of the most vigorous and striking-looking collectibles I’ve seen in a while. “Last moment“The statue has just gone up for pre-order on Dark Horse Direct (as shared Wario64) and considering the level of detail, I can almost forgive the $300 price tag. Although my first reaction to the statue wasn’t “ooooh” but rather “dear God” because if you know the “final moment” that this collectible represents, you know it’s pretty creepy.
If you are not informed about this, you should know it. Cyberpunk Edgerunners is a great show (one of the best on Netflix in years), so get off the train and go watch it because follow spoilers.
If I were an ordinary customer, I would assume that this statue represents the climax of the most important battle in the series – two equally opposing forces colliding barrel to barrel. This couldn’t be further from the truth. This is the first Edgerunners collectible produced by Dark Horse, which chose to crystallize Rebecca eight nanoseconds before Adam Smasher he brutally beat her to death (warning: very brutal clip). It’s an execution in motion – an extension of the main character’s surprising death that the show dwells on for all of five seconds before a further depressing finale.
Topic aside, I can see why Dark Horse was drawn to this scene: the poses are extremely cool, the drama is high, the way they defy gravity by connecting with the weapons is neat, and the contrasts between Rebecca and Smasher catch my eye. But as an illustrator, Triple-Q eloquently – he noted on Twitter“It’s like selling an Old Yeller figure in front of a shotgun barrel.” Cruel? A bit. Badass? Definitely.
If you’ve ever wanted to speed up spoilers for movies and video games you’ve never played, that’s the rest quote tweets are full of fans imagining equivalent collectibles depicting the deaths of other iconic characters, as well as people praising and cringing at the “devil” statue.
