We all know that Sony’s animated Spider-Verse is a scorching mess, but the CEO of Sony Pictures doesn’t understand why they didn’t do well.
If I were to offer you two cards, one that said “a Spider-Man movie” and one that said “a movie about Spider-Man villains but he’s not in it,” which would you choose? Of course, it’s the former, because most comic book villains aren’t very fascinating on their own. Venom is obviously the exception to this rule, but he also looks a bit like Spider-Man and has become an anti-hero in recent years, so there’s a lot of appeal there. But Morbius? Mrs Web? Kraven? NO. But Sony made movies about them anyway, and now they’re talking to Los Angeles TimesSony Pictures CEO Tony Vinciquerra said he simply didn’t understand why these films didn’t do well.

The latest release, Kraven, was a massive bomb, with current worldwide box office takings of almost $46, or even half of its estimated $110 million price tag. Vinciquerra said it was “probably the worst start we’ve had in the seven and a half years” since he started, and continuing, quite surprisingly, he added, “It didn’t do very well, which I still think is a I don’t understand because this movie isn’t bad “. There’s a huge misconception here that any amount of quality can make up for a movie no one wants, but according to Vinciquerra, it’s actually the press’s fault for the penniless performance of films like Madame Web and later Kraven.
“Madame Web” did poorly in theaters because the press basically crucified it. It wasn’t a bad movie and it did great on Netflix. For some reason the press decided they didn’t want us to make these Kraven and Madame Web movies, and the critics just trashed them. They did this with Venom too, but the audience loved Venom and made it a huge hit. These aren’t terrible movies, for some reason they were just trashed by the criticism in the press.
The reason was because the movies were bad, Tony! Venom was a hit because he is a prominent Spider-Man character, Tony! And also each of its sequels did worse at the box office than the last because all of Sony’s other Spider-Man-less Spider-Man movies were received so poorly! Hurry up!
Anyway, none of that matters anyway, since this universe is now dead, and the focus will be back on the character everyone really likes: Spider-Man. Who would have thought that this was a wise decision!
