“They fire their entire payload at me, and I can retreat” – the next patch for Helldivers 2 will make it easier to fight rocket-armed robots and attack helicopters

We already know that the upcoming Helldivers 2 patch will bring with it some pretty solid buffs to the weapons you can wield as a diver, but Arrowhead is also taking on the task of making certain enemies easier to fight. With that in mind, guided missile destroyers and gunships have additional limitations on their explosive potential.

The studio is currently sharing brief snippets of the patch notes for patch 01.001.007, expanding on what was mentioned in last week’s blog post and preparing for the release of the update on September 17 and the Chemical Agents Warbond update just a few days later.

The latest Arrowhead patch notes address the rocket-wielding enemies that have been the subject of criticism from players, especially when excessive ragdolling was another issue on the list. Essentially, a few measures are being implemented to make it a bit easier to fight these enemies, who are capable of firing off enough explosive fire to pin down forces as well-equipped as the Helldivers.

“Rocket Devastators now have a limited number of rockets and are visibly despawned when they are used up. A reload mechanic has been added to their backpack to replenish their rockets,” writes Arrowhead, “Also, the physics of rocket collisions are now smoother, making them easier to avoid.”

“I think they can only fire three bursts or something like that, and then they have to reload because they have a pack. They can reload once,” developer Niklas Malmborg said of destroyers in another brief video chat about the upcoming change with Arrowhead CCO Johan Pilestedt. He also confirmed that the collision area has been reduced by 80% for each missile, and that gunships will also be able to run out of ammo.

How will the addition of this last creature affect gameplay? Well, as Pilestedt put it, “I hide behind a rock, they shoot their entire payload at me, and I can come out of hiding.” Video games.
