Sonic the Hedgehog 3 hit theaters last week and its co-writers Pat Casey and Josh Miller are prospering. The day before its release, we talked to them in detail about everything Sonic: Big the Cat, their inspirations, whether Chaos is real or not… you know, the massive questions. And us Also learned about their dream video game adaptations, which include A Boy and His Blob, Golden Ax and… The Legend of Zelda: The Wind Waker.
In an interview with IGN, Casey and Miller reminded us that they have signed on to write the screenplay for the upcoming film adaptation of It Takes Two produced by Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson, and also hinted that they are working on other unannounced adaptations that they may not have discussed. But as for things they’re definitely not working on right now but would like to?
“We talked about the Golden Axe,” Casey suggests. “Golden Ax is another good Genesis multiplayer game.”
Miller adds A Boy and His Blob, and Casey responds with “a 7-Up game where Dot has a platform adventure.” He’s referring to Cool Spot, a 1993 platformer featuring a red dot with the 7-Up logo. But Miller ends with a much more electrifying suggestion: The Legend of Zelda: The Wind Waker.
“I think we can answer another easy question because the movie is already happening and we’re not doing it anymore, it would be Zelda,” he says. “I remember whenever we played Wind Waker we always said, man, I mean, it would probably be weird if they made a Zelda movie at the beginning of Wind Waker instead of the more classic Hyrule. But we both loved Wind Waker and it’s so cinematic. Yes. So when they make a Zelda movie, I think we’ll put it out into the world, maybe we can do a spin-off of Wind Waker.
We don’t know much about Nintendo and Sony’s collaboration on The Legend of Zelda. We know it’s going to be live-action, that it will be directed by The Maze Runner’s Wes Ball, and that it will be released before the end of the decade. And, I guess, Pat Casey and Josh Miller NO write this.
Stay tuned to IGN for the full interview with Casey and Miller later this week, as well as the latest news on Sonic the Hedgehog 3.
