The Witcher 4 revealed with Ciri in the main role

CD Projekt Red revealed The Witcher 4 along with the first trailer for the game, in which Ciri is the main character.

The gorgeously rendered story trailer shows the girl dressed and prepared to sacrifice herself to the evil of the world in order to save the village. Except there is a witcher in the city who fights evil instead, and that witcher is…. Ciri!

Here is the CDPR note:

“The Witcher IV is a single-player open-world RPG from CD PROJEKT RED. At the beginning of the new saga, players take on the role of Ciri, a professional monster slayer, and embark on a journey through the brutal world of dark fantasy. Powered by Unreal Engine 5, the game promises to be the most immersive and ambitious open-world Witcher game to date.”

We are still many years away from the release of The Witcher 4, and CDPR confirmed just a few weeks ago that the game has already entered full production.

This trailer is also a showcase of what CDPR is aiming for with the up-to-date game engine. CDPR has made the jump from its own in-house game engine to Unreal Engine 5. This, as we have seen even in studios that have moved from Unreal Engine 4, has a significant impact on the production pipeline as developers and artists look to integrate features such as textures into the game Nanite and Lumen Global Illumination.
