Last month, Nightdive Studios confirmed that it was working on The Thing: Remastered, a remake of the 2002 game that was based on the 1982 sci-fi horror classic. While details about a release date for The Thing: Remastered are insufficient, Nightdive Studios did release a up-to-date developer diary that focuses on the game’s visuals and design, showing off some of the differences from the 2002 game.
The Thing: Remastered’s deep dive into the visuals is hosted by Locke Vincent, who is joined by Joel Welsh, the studio’s art director, who explains some of the decisions that were made. For example, screenshots of The Thing: Remastered show us that there’s more detail, like floor tiles and additional signage, compared to the original game. Joel also confirms that some of the original development team were able to provide information that Nightdive Studios could operate and work with, which allowed for a smoother development process for this remaster. Many of the assets remain the same, but in higher resolution. Each change is made individually, with care taken to ensure that any changes match the scenes in the game and the film.
It must be said that all the work shown by Nightdive Studios is still a work in progress and that there will be further changes to the visual design of the remaster. As said, we do not yet know when The Thing: Remastered will be released, although we do know that it is expected for PC, PS5, PS4, Xbox One, Xbox Series X|S and Nintendo Switch.
