The Seven Deadly Sins: Origin releases up-to-date trailer at The Game Awards

Published:

As part of the Game Awards, we received a up-to-date trailer for The Seven Deadly Sins: Origin, showcasing exploration and co-op gameplay, as well as a possible hint at the return of a fan-favorite character.

For those who don’t know yet, The Seven Deadly Sins: Origin is an open world action RPG set in the UK, in the world of The Seven Deadly Sins manga and anime. Starring Tristan, Prince of Liones, there is a multiverse narrative that tells its own original story. Tristan finds a pendant called the Book of Stars, which has the power to connect timelines, but also awakens a up-to-date darkness that must be defeated.

It is a up-to-date story spanning alternate timelines, which means almost any character or enemy from the manga and anime series can appear in it. We got a taste of this in the trailer, which included a brief introduction to Escanor, the beloved member of the titular Seven Deadly Sins. Fans of the show know all about him and what’s going on with him, but the latest trailer includes a brief glimpse of his signature Lion Sin of Pride tattoo, possibly suggesting he’s returning to show off his daylight-based strength.

While Escanor is the most noticeable character in the trailer, he’s not the only familiar face. We see several well-known characters – including Meliodas, Elizabeth, and Diane (more on her in a moment) – fighting alongside the player-controlled team against three powerful bosses, giving us our most detailed look at the size and scope of multiplayer battles yet.

We’ve known for some time that you can have up to four characters in your party and switch between them on the fly with a single button. However, in the Ancient Dragon fight trailer, it can be inferred from the UI that this is still the case even when the player is joined by friends in co-op.

So even during multiplayer battles, you will still be able to switch between your entire team. And speaking of the UI, you can also see that each character has an ultimate elemental ability that lights up when available for operate, even if that character is not currently on the battlefield, which helps you plan your strategy and when to switch characters.

We’ll also take a look at a multiplayer battle against a boss named Warden Orgot. For both the guardian and the dragon, you can learn about the power and range of some of their abilities. Red zones show where an area attack will land, and some of these zones take up a huge amount of space, so you’ll clearly need to be vigilant during these disordered battles.

The final boss battle featured in the trailer was only briefly shown, but it’s still notable for what it is: a giant version of Diane. This fight is accompanied by the text of the quest “Episode 8: Diane Goes Wild”. So… what exactly is going on there? I guess we’ll just have to wait to find out. The Ancient Dragon, Guardian Orgot, and Giant Diane are all up-to-date bosses that were not included in the game’s recent closed beta, so even those who have had a chance to play the game already have something to get excited about.

The rest of the trailer showed that fighting giant bosses isn’t the only thing you can do with your friends. We had the opportunity to see cooperative exploration in both dungeons and the open world, which included seeing all team members together on flying mounts in the air. This means you’ll have the freedom to travel with your friends around the world.

The up-to-date trailer is the latest to be unveiled at some of the biggest gaming events this year. There were trailers or playable compilations at Summer Game Fest in June, Gamescom in August, Tokyo Game Show in September, G-STAR 2025 in November, and now The Game Awards.
