Published:

  • It was announced that Frostpunk: Beyond the Ice will debut on October 29
  • In the game, you manage a city trying to survive a global ice age
  • To survive, you will need careful management of resources and ruthless decisions

It has been announced that Com2Us’ mobile adaptation of the popular survival city-building simulator Frostpunk: Beyond the Ice will be released on October 29. Mobile-exclusive gameplay features, such as social multiplayer elements, were also revealed. Suffice it to say, once the weather cools down, you won’t have to wait long to brave the frost.

Frostpunk needs no introduction, but for those who don’t know, this survival city builder sees you trying to maintain one of the last human settlements on the frozen Earth. Difficult moral decisions require balancing efficiency and ethics, including deciding who must live and who must die to keep the city alive and burn the head generator.

Developed by Com2Us and Tencent Games, Frostpunk: Beyond the Ice brings this iconic game to mobile devices. The set will include a range of novel mini-games with locations such as a pub, stock exchange, animal shelter and hospital, as well as trading with other players by specializing your city in a specific industry.

Frosty or sultry reception?

For a game like Frostpunk, which relies almost entirely on severity and ruthlessness, the decision to port it to mobile devices may be met with a lukewarm reception. Having played an early version of this game, I was intrigued, but I feel that the need to balance brutally complex gameplay with F2P requirements could set this game up for disaster. Still, with a surprising depth of features and minigames, we hope Beyond the Ice will stand out from the rest.
