It is said that every time Deus Ex is mentioned, someone reinstalls it. If this is true and you’re reading the RPS, chances are you’ve reinstalled Deus Ex about six hundred times by now.
This is where the all-in-one Randomizer mod comes in, remixing addictive SIM levels to keep things fresh every time. It has just received a major update that, among several other additions, allows you to pet the dogs and cats featured in the game.
I’m long past the point of defining video games as “can you pet the dog,” but it’s a good excuse to mention the Randomizer mod. Here’s a trailer for the fresh version:
It allows for the randomization of almost every interactive element in a Deus Ex level, from enemies to passwords, repair bots to starting locations, weapon stats to upgrades. All of this randomness is modifiable by the player and can take into account other settings, such as the chosen difficulty level.
You may wonder what petting animals has to do with randomness. The Randomizer mod also includes several quality improvements to the base game, including auto-filling of discovered passwords, an aug selection wheel, and a speedrun mode. Several of these improvements, by reducing the need to operate a keyboard, make gaming much more enjoyable on Steam Deck.
You can go to Deus Ex Randomizer Github Page for a full set of patch notes. There you’ll also find download links for the mod, including an installer that makes it uncomplicated to set up, even if you’re fresh to Deus Ex mods.
