Developer Omeda Studios has announced that its third-person MOBA game Predecessor will finally leave Early Access and release as version 1.0 on August 20, 2024. The game has been in development for years and is itself a resurrection of an even older title, but the work is far from finished.
Until 2024 Predecessor was released in beta on Xbox and PlayStation consoles, and Omeda Studios introduced Brawl and Ranked modes to the roster for players to enjoy. However, even before that, as of 2020, the game was in production, with up-to-date champions and skins being added to the roster regularly. Having played the game for a while now, I believe that connecting with the community is what gave the game the momentum to reach this point.
There will be more MOBAs in the future
In 2016, Epic Games released Paragon. A third-person MOBA that was fun to play. However, the project was abandoned in favor of Fortnite and offered the assets to anyone who wanted to work with them to build their own version. That’s when Paragon content creator and current Omeda Studios CEO Robbie Singh stepped in to leverage those assets and assemble a team to build Predecessor.
Although the game is based on Paragon, Predecessor really is its own beast. The third-person camera puts you right in the heart of the action and makes even those early moments of the game that are monotonous in any MOBA feel intense as you try to keep your character alive and level up to gain an advantage over your opponents.
Studio Omeda has not revealed any up-to-date content for Predecessor1.0, but the producer suggested that the game would be part of Gamescom Opening LiveAs it is, the game has a solid base to which anything can be added that will improve it and add even more up-to-date content to the MOBA genre.
I would love for Omeda Studios to take their social links even further and start some sort of community cup. Creating an esports league is understandably exorbitant, but providing the community with regular online tournaments to compete in ranked would add another reason to keep playing and leveling up their account so they can continue to compete in each one.
At the very least, it looks like we’ll be getting a up-to-date gameplay trailer, which should convince anyone on the fence. Predecessor to try out once it reaches 1.0.
