Plucky Squire — one of the coolest-looking indie games to come out this year — finally got a release date. The game is out on September 17, but PlayStation Plus subscribers will be cheerful to know they’ll be able to download it on day one.
It was announced via the official PlayStation Twitter accountand has been paired with a lovely little gameplay video. The game will be added to the PlayStation Plus catalog of games, so even if you decide to sign up later this year, The Plucky Squire should be waiting for you there.

Plucky Squire, for those who don’t know, looks particularly awesome in a year full of great releases. It combines 2D and 3D gameplay in a very colorful, art book-style aesthetic that’s damn simple on the eyes. Developer All Possible Futures is releasing it as its first game with Devolver Digital as publisher, and if the Devolver name isn’t a seal of approval for ambitious, awesome indie games at this point, then I don’t know what to tell you.
September is shaping up pretty well though, with Warhammer 40:000 Space Marine 2, Astro Bot and Dead Rising Deluxe Remaster all set to release. But thankfully The Plucky Squire is different enough from those titles that it deserves a breather. Hopefully it will appeal to a different audience. A huge enough audience for the game to succeed. Whatever deal the developers have negotiated with PlayStation will certainly lend a hand too.
