Fortnite has re-enabled Peaceful Hips, its infamous Peacemaker dance emote, after making changes to the choreography following speculation it referenced Nazi imagery.
Last week, Fortnite developer Epic Games quickly disabled the dance after airing a major plot twist in the DC series starring James Gunn and John Cena, and suggested the emote was unlikely to return.
“We are disabling the Calm Hips emote in Fortnite as we review our partner’s creative intent in this cooperative emote,” Epic Games wrote at the time. “Assuming the device is not returned, we will issue a refund within the next few days. We are sorry.”
A few days later, Epic Games issued a carefully worded follow-up comment stating that it had “worked closely with our partners at Warner Bros. Games to confirm that there was no creative intent to connect the Peaceful Hips emote to the current Peacemaker storyline.”
Final result? “To avoid confusion,” the creator continued, “we are modifying the emote choreography in next week’s update.” Some found the statement unclear as to whether the emote was a reference to Nazi references in the show. If so, why did he come back? If not, why was it changed?
Regardless, today’s gigantic Fortnite update (which also adds the Fortnitemares Halloween event to the game, as well as the first nod to the highly anticipated The Simpsons mini-season) has now made the change, and the Peaceful Hips emote is now updated.
For comparison, see the original dance emote and the updated one below:

The original emote starts with both arms bent at the elbow. After moving slightly sideways, each arm is then bent upwards one at a time – a movement some see as resembling a swastika. Then there is a momentary touch of the thighs, after which the hands are placed behind the head, and the exercise ends with a generous double push in the step.
The fresh emote replaces the middle part with a fresh move – clenched fists, up and down arm movements – which then leads neatly into the rest of the choreography.
Fortnite has had a busy 24 hours last night, having to deal with rap star Doja Cat breaking kayfabe by criticizing the game’s social media account for mentioning a sex toy that was made to look like it was written by her. Meanwhile, for more on Peacemaker, IGN recently spoke with Gunn about the series and the other gigantic surprise: Nicholas Hoult’s Lex Luthor.
