Nintendo Switch 2 Universal Carrying Case: Review

If you’re looking to buy a case for your shiny novel Nintendo Switch 2 console, you may have come across the official Nintendo Switch 2 All-in-One Carrying Case. This model is enormous enough to hold your Nintendo Switch 2 console, but also everything you need to enjoy the console in TV mode.

Yes, there is really a lot of room for fun here. I’m talking about slots for the console, dock, controllers… everything works. But with a list price of $84.99 / £66.99 / AU$109.95, is it really worth investing in? I tested it for days to find out…

If, like me, you prefer to play your Nintendo Switch 2 in TV mode, this case is for you. It’s enormous and ample, with individual compartments for the console, dock, Joy-Con 2 controllers, Nintendo Switch 2 Pro controller, and more. There is also a zippered pocket where you can store cables and additional items.

I easily fit everything I needed into the case – something I can’t say about any other case I’ve tested.

The only aspect that could be improved in terms of storage is increasing the number of physical slots for game cards. You only get six here – less than some third-party options, such as the Belkin charging case for the Nintendo Switch 2. Still, if you’re going on a miniature trip – to play at a friend’s house, for example – six slots will probably be enough.

Let’s talk about durability – quite an critical factor when making a purchase decision. Now this model is certainly robust enough. No, it doesn’t have a rock-hard chassis or anything – it’s more malleable than some rivals. Still, it has a decent amount of padding, and the material used on the outside is abrasive enough to handle drops and scratches. On top there is a protective flap for the Switch 2 console and the docking station.

I tried throwing the case on the floor and scratching it solid, but I didn’t notice any damage, so no complaints on my part.

I do have a few complaints though. Firstly, the handle of the case is quite narrow and does not stretch much. As a result, it felt too tiny in my hand. However, as a person with relatively enormous hands, I wanted to hear additional opinions. Unfortunately, everyone in my office agreed that the handle length and shape were too restrictive, with one colleague noting that it resulted in an overall destitute grip.

Secondly, I would argue that the design is a tiny consideration. It’s completely black with no fun details. Not only that, but I would like to see a bit of color or at least some colorful options. I officially think there’s an opportunity to leverage Nintendo’s amazing IPs for a more charismatic look.

Finally, and you may have already expected this, we need to talk about that price. This is definitely the most capacious case I have tested. It is also robust and secure. But $84.99 / £66.99 / AU$109.95 is quite an investment – especially when many third-party rivals charge around half that for a similar version.

To sum up, is it worth buying the Nintendo Switch 2 universal carrying case? Well, I’m pretty torn. On one hand, I can see myself using this solution for its combination of ample storage space and solid durability. On the other hand, I’m not convinced that it’s particularly well priced, and I was disappointed by the uncomfortable grip and somewhat narrow number of places to play. If you have the cash, this is an option worth considering – otherwise, I recommend checking out third-party alternatives.

How I tested the Nintendo Switch 2 universal carrying case

  • Tested for many days

  • Tested by a Switch 2 owner and lifelong gamer

I tested the Nintendo Switch 2 All-In-One Carrying Case for days. I loaded it up with a Nintendo Switch 2, a dock, Joy-Cons, a third-party controller, cables, games… you name it.

Even though I didn’t really want to drop the case with the console inside, I threw it on the floor once it was empty. I also tried scratching the case and checked it for wear after a few days of operate. I also compared aspects such as durability and storage space with the Nacon Protection Case XL for Nintendo Switch 2.

Overall, I’m a Switch 2 owner, lifelong gamer, and experienced tech reviewer. I’ve had the Switch 2 since launch and have tested many accessories such as the Genki Aegis Shield, DBrand Prism 2.0, and Hori Piranha Plant Camera for the Nintendo Switch 2.
