We can finally say that we know what Christopher Nolan’s next film will be about. Universal Pictures shared the first real details about the highly anticipated pic in a tweet.

The film is titled Odyssey and is intended to take the legendary director into the mythical action genre.

Mythical action isn’t something you’d associate with Nolan, but considering the Odyssey in question is the work of Homer actual odyssey, you can almost see why. According to Universal, the film will hit theaters on July 17, 2026.

More interestingly, the film will be shot “using brand new IMAX film technology,” although it’s unclear what that actually means. Odyssey will shoot in various locations around the world, which would seem to suggest a lot of real-world action rather than soundstage/studio filming, and production will reportedly begin in the first half of 2025.

While that’s it for Universal’s Twitter, we do know that “The Odyssey” already has an all-star cast that includes Robert Pattinson, Tom Holland, Matt Damon, Charlize Theron, Anne Hathaway, Zendaya and Lupita Nyong’o, according to industry reports.

The Odyssey is one of the most recognizable (and adapted) epics of Greek culture. It is certainly not a foreign film, as it has had several adaptations, the most eminent of which was “Ulysses” from 1954. However, not all adaptations follow the entire epic, as some are loosely based on it, borrowing certain motifs or filming only certain parts of the poem – e.g. “O Brother, Where Art Thou?” Coen brothers. is one such project.

Given how secretive Nolan likes to keep his projects, we probably won’t hear any official details until release. Even then, they will be more than a little vague, especially if we assume that this will not be a plain adaptation.
