New Donkey Kong Banana-Nintendo Direct was full of tempting novel information about the upcoming novel DK game. Fans such as I absorbed every little information, trying to find out exactly how it fits the rest of the Donkey Kong series. There were many miniature disclosure of knowledge, including the fact that we now know that Donkey Kong was born through natural birth. This is a revelation that adds a novel level of understanding of its history – and no, I’m not kidding (just really strange).
So although we are waiting with concern for the day when Donkey Kong Banana earns at the top of the list of the best Switch games (like his birthday), let’s unpack the revelation in the header (look, we have a month until the date of the Donkey Kong Banana release, I have to deal with). Yes, we could talk about the fact that Pauline is a little girl, or Diddy and Dixie are there, but we do not yet have enough information about their roles to draw solid conclusions about how it fits the time axis or whatever.
So how do we know now that Donkey Kong had a natural birth? Well, so far the only information we had about the start of DK time on this land comes from the island of Yoshi’s Island DS. In this game we see that various children were kidnapped by Kamka toads and ensured safety thanks to storks that we know canonically introduced Mario and Luigi. Because these storks also helped Donkey Kong, it seemed logical that they also introduced him to the world.
But no. Unlike Mario and Luigi, Donkey Kong came to this world through natural birth, just like you or. How do we know this? Well, Direct gave us the eye of the screen adjustment screen on which DK can be placed in various costumes. One of the outfits is simply called “naked”, and the description is “… as the day you were born. And it is not ashamed.” We know that storks are provided by babies already wearing diapers or in the case of DK, a special bib. Therefore, although the storks helped him protect him as infants, they did not provide him with this world.
Fascinating things. I can’t wait to see what else we can learn from Donkey Kong Banana. I suspect that it will give us more insight into the history of the Donkey Kong universe than even Star Fox Adventures – and if you don’t know what I’m talking about, you can have fun reading for the release of a banana.
