NetherRealm Studios has announced a brand novel expansion for Mortal Kombat 1 titled Khaos Reigns, which promises a longer story and six novel characters.
If you’ve been waiting for news about the next batch of characters coming to Mortal Kombat 1, you’re in luck, because a whole bunch of them were revealed at San Diego Comic-Con this week. Mortal Kombat co-creator Ed Boom showed up at the convention to reveal the game’s first expansion, as well as the next Kombat Pack, which revealed all six characters. Three of them are Mortal Kombat classics, Cyrax, Sektor, and Noob Saibot, but the other three are guest characters: Terminator T-1000 from Terminator 2, Ghostface from Scream, and Conan the Barbarian, from, uh, Conan the Barbarian.

None of this information will come as a surprise to any of you, because datamine from a month ago evidence of these six characters has already been found, but it’s still nice to have confirmation. You’ll probably also be elated to know that Ghostface’s iconic voice actor, Roger L. Jackson, will reprise his role in the game, as if it could be anyone other than him. Robert Patrick, of course, lent his image to the T-1000, but he’s also returning to voice his character. Conan the Barbarian will only feature Arnold Schwarzenegger’s image, and a voice actor has not been confirmed.
The expansion will also continue the story with an all-new campaign, described as follows: “When a dangerous threat arrives from an alternate timeline, led by the ruthless Titan Havik, whose sole mission is to throw the kingdoms into chaos, Liu Kang must unite his champions and trust his enemies to defeat this grave danger. If they fail, the New Era will be reduced to anarchy.”
Animalities, a fan-favorite finishing move, is also making a comeback, allowing characters to transform into their spirit animal to defeat opponents. This feature will be available to all players for free, and the MK 95 Scorpion skin based on the original 1995 film is available now for free.
