The next narrow edition Steam Deck OLED comes in white and this time it will be available worldwide

Steam Deck OLED – which is like Steam Deck but better in almost every way – is getting a up-to-date, though potentially more smudge-prone, narrow edition. The successor to the translucent version that only went on sale in the US and Canada last year, the Steam Deck OLED: Limited Edition White offers both a snowy look and – for those of us outside North America – the chance to actually buy it. It will go on sale on November 18 in all countries where the Steam Deck is currently shipped.

For the white and gray makeover, you’ll pay £599 / $679 / €719, which is a few notches more than the 1TB OLED Steam Deck, to which it’s functionally identical. But you would get it exclusive the option of protecting your waistline from thieves by camouflaging it from a stack of printer paper, or more effectively pairing it with a pair of summer chinos ready to take on the boat. The set also includes a white case.

Still, I probably won’t go for it. Apart from being perfectly cheerful with my bog, Gothic Steam Deck OLED display, I immediately became deeply paranoid about the marks, scratches and melted chocolate stains marring the otherwise pristine exterior. However, if you’re one of those people who thinks all consumer electronics should look like an iPod, then it’s true that they do, albeit temporarily. Limited means narrow in this case, and once the first round of stock is sold out, it’s gone forever. Better be ready on January 18 at 3pm PST/11pm GMT to catch one when it releases.

If you do miss out, take comfort in knowing that a successful white narrow edition could lead to more spirited Steam Deck color changes in the future. “We are curious about the reaction and will use the knowledge we gain to make future decisions regarding possible new color variants,” Valve’s head of communications, Kaci Aitchison Boyle, said in a statement.

The letter also confirmed that Valve is committed to “continued work on the future of Steam Deck and other hardware plans,” although you can likely expect up-to-date colors for existing models ahead of the full release of Steam Deck 2. For some, that’s still not coming according to Valve engineers, who want to “wait for a generational leap” in computing performance before committing to a completely up-to-date handheld.
