The Monster Hunter Wilds pre-release update fixes issues with the open beta

Capcom has released a pre-release community update for Monster Hunter Wilds, responding to player feedback from the open beta. The update covers changes players can expect when Monster Hunter Wilds launches, including performance goals, weapon balance, and ability to equip their gear. The full community update takes approximately one hour and 20 minutes, so there is a summary after the video. Capcom has stated that things mentioned in the video may change in the future and that there are even more moves by developers that have not been discussed.

Monster Hunter Wilds’ appearances are the first topic explored in the film, especially in the Steam version. One of the biggest announcements in the update is that the development team may lower the recommended graphics card specifications. On console, the gameplay priority setting will be locked at 30fps, while the framerate priority setting will be locked at 60fps. However, it looks like the frame rate will be 30fps on Xbox Series S.

Gameplay changes coming to Monster Hunter Wilds include increasing the power of weapon hits, especially when it comes to finishes and immense moves. Friendly fire will also be further nerfed, including against upward hammer attacks. The shockproof gem will also allow players to negate damage reactions. The full version will feature pop-up camps and quick travel, so you won’t have to fight your way all the way to where the monster is. The speed at which monsters move between different locations will be adjusted to the level of Monster Hunter World. In the Wilds beta, monsters often moved between areas and this was a bug that has been fixed.

Weapons have also been adjusted to the main version, with most of the changes players will notice: Insect Glaive, Lance, Switch Ax and Sword & Shield. The Vaulting Dance move will return for Insect Glaive, increasing the power of air attacks. Lance will get a Charge Counter, which was previously a Thrust Counter. You can also choose counterattacks for the Lance. The Switch Ax will also be easier to exploit in the full version by simplifying the execution of certain weapon moves, such as the Counter Rising Slash. For Sword and Shield, Rising Slash will be useful when defending, and the responsiveness of moves like Perfect Assault has also been improved.

There will also be changes to the way you equip skills in Monster Hunter Wilds. Previously, skills were only available for armor, but in Wilds skills will also be available for weapons. Attack and protection skills will be equipped for weapons, while other skills such as quick eating will be for armor. Upgrading your weapon will also give you the chance to upgrade your skills, unlock more skill slots, or a combination of both.

Another open beta for Monster Hunter Wilds is being considered, but it will be aimed more at players who haven’t had a chance to play it for the first time, and only a few additional features will likely be added. The changes discussed in the update will likely not be included in another open beta, if one continues. Monster Hunter Wilds is scheduled to launch on February 28, 2025, and will launch on PS5, Xbox Series X|S, and PC.
