The Legend of Zelda: Echoes of Wisdom’s Latest Trailer Shows Breath of the World’s Influence Will Spread to 2D Games

Nintendo unexpectedly released a modern trailer for The Legend of Zelda: Echoes of Wisdom, and it clearly shows the influence Breath of the Wild had on the game.

Back in June, Nintendo revealed its latest Zelda game, just a year after the release of Tears of the Kingdom , but this time, the titular princess is finally the star of her own game. Today, Nintendo released a modern trailer for Traversing Hyrule , which offers a more detailed look at some of the locations you’ll visit this time around, as well as another ability Zelda will have and another companion she’ll be traveling with. For the first time in a 2D Zelda game, the Gerudo will appear, as usual, in the Gerudo Desert, a place full of secrets.

Jabul Waters will host both Sea Zora and River Zora, two different types you may have seen in the first trailer. The Sea Zora are the type you know from Ocarina of Time and Breath of the Wild, while the River Zora are the ones from A Link to the Past and other 2D games – this is the first time they’ve appeared together in a game. The Gorons are also back, in Eldin Volcano, but more importantly, the Deku Scrubs are back for the first time since Tri Force Heroes.

Business Scrubs can even facilitate you make smoothies from the items you collect that have different effects depending on what you mix. Oh, and you can wear different accessories and clothing items to get different effects!

It was clear from the first trailer that Echoes of Widsom’s design was inspired by Breath of the Wild’s “play with your toolset and see what happens” mentality, but the influence goes even further than it first seemed. In addition to the game’s main quest, there will also be side quests, with an adventure journal, just like in Breath of the Wild.

You have the ability to quick travel when you find certain landmarks, but who cares when Zelda gets to ride on what is probably the cutest horse the series has ever had (they also let you jump over tiny obstacles). By using your echo ability to create a carrot, you can even summon a horse, which I absolutely love.

Finally, the trailer also showed off another ability that Tri will give Zelda, Bind. When you operate Bind, you literally connect to interactive objects, allowing you to move them around, kind of like Ultrahand from Tears of the Kingdom. You can also operate it on buried treasure or enemies, as well as your echoes, which looks like it’ll have a ton of different uses in the game’s puzzles.

The end of the trailer also shows how the rifts shown in the first trailer cause huge, significant landmarks to disappear throughout the world, and it looks like you’ll be able to enter a portal, presumably to save them, which is of course reminiscent of the Dark World from A Link to the Past. It’s clear that Nintendo isn’t doing this by halves, which is reassuring for Zelda’s first solo outing.

The Legend of Zelda: Echoes of Wisdom will be released on September 26 for Nintendo Switch.
