On the 30th anniversary Gundam mobile suitBlizzard turns Overwatch heroes into Mechów. Mercy, Reaper, Soldier: 76 and Ramattra will have skins based on anime from the 90s from April 29.
The composition looks like this: mercy as a wing zero, the reaper as death, a soldier: 76 as Tailgeese and Ramattra as Epyon.
Thanks to such a huge list of Overwatch heroes to choose from (43!), Some did not cut, artistic director Dion Rogers and deputy director of product management Aimee Dennett said Polygon in a recent interview.
“As an example, we originally tried Ana for Tallgeese, because their weapon is similar, but it didn’t really work,” said Dennett.
“We also studied Mauga as heavy weapons, because the weapon was such a close match,” said Rogers. “Ultimately, it just didn’t look quite good, so we finished in a different direction with the choice of a hero and mobile suits.”
The team bought GunPla sets to build Mechs and compare them with their versions in the game. Rogers said you would notice: “If you look carefully in the hinges in someone’s finger, this type of thing.” And when Collab takes place live, the main menu will even contain the art of one of the artists behind GunPl’s art.
Blizzard said that crossover skins do not allow you to play as characters or mechs, from other media, but instead as Overwatch Heroes. Rogers said that when the band showed Bandai early leather iterations, he asked to see more heroes in projects. That is why Mercy’s glowing wings are still observable when it flies in the white and blue armor of Wing Zero.
“Gundam had a significant impact on culture and games, but also had a great impact on many of our artists,” said Rogers. “It was a passion project for us, and for some members of our team it was a moment on the list of buckets.”
Overwatch Gundam mobile suit Collab will start on April 29.
