MechWarrior 5: Mercenary support studio Toadman Interactive has been shut down by parent company Enad Global 7 as part of “austerity measuresThis comes after the studio closed its offices in Stockholm, Visby and Oslo last November, as well as numerous layoffs at the Berlin studio. Toadman – which also created games such as Souls Immortal: Unchained and provided support for Helldivers 2 – employed 69 people at the time of closure.
This coincides with Enad Global 7 laying off “approximately” 38 people at Piranha Games, whose latest installment in the series, MechWarrior 5: Clans, “fell below expectations.” said Enad Global 7 CEO Ji Ham below: :
“The Piranha team has truly created a high-quality game that exceeded both internal and external expectations in terms of quality, story and gameplay. Despite the phenomenal work of the Piranha team, the game did not reach modern audiences and expand its core audience as expected and therefore did not achieve the necessary sales targets, forcing us to take the necessary actions.
Piranha has been the de facto maintainer of the MechWarrior series since the release of MechWarrior Online in 2013.
How Eurogamer ReportEnad Global 7’s restructuring reflects a series of closures of other studios that have already occurred in 2025. Freejam for Robocraft 2 developers and Godfall counter-attack games. Last week, we learned that Gears Tactics developer Splash Damage had canceled Transformers: Reactivate with “multiple roles… potentially at risk of being fired.”
