Somehow, it turns out that The First Descendant, a game from PC Gamer’s Morgan Park called “Destiny’s dollar store with only sexy people,” has no vibration physics. I know this because, as he noticed GamesRadarthe developer announced “big news” on Discord that The First Descendant is getting shaky physics.
“I wanted to share some important news, so I decided to go online late in the evening,” TFD_PD_Lee said in a translated message. “After a long discussion with AD today, the decision has been made to add the highly anticipated “Jiggle Physics.” This decision was made recently, so details on when and how this will be implemented in the game have not yet been finalized and will be made available in future updates.
For the uninitiated, vibration physics is a general term for systems that add undoubtedly exaggerated oscillations to specific parts of the body. Wikipedia, which has an entire section devoted to this, provides vibrational physics (which it describes more prosaically as “breast physics“) dates back to 1992, in the fighting game Fatal Fury 2.
It has since become almost ubiquitous in the decades since, although not everyone likes it. For example, in 2018, Epic added and then quickly removed vibration physics in Fortnite, calling it “embarrassing and unintentional.” How does a game studio inadvertently add vibration physics to its characters? I don’t know that.
Larian, on the other hand, has apparently decided to expand on this particular area of technology by adding “schlong physics” to Baldur’s Gate 3 in 2023.
The most surprising thing about all this, as I mentioned earlier, is that there was no vibration physics at all in First Successor. It’s a perfectly serviceable Destiny 2 knockoff, but perhaps what’s most notable is, as Morgan puts it, “its cast of exclusive and comically beautiful supermodels.” The aesthetics really aren’t subtle.
Based on the completely celebratory reaction to RedditTFD_PD_Lee was definitely not wrong when he said this was “big news”.
But then again, this isn’t the first twitch-related update Nexon has made to The First Descendant: back in October, it removed the “tails” from the Twisted Worship skin so that players could see more of the, um, tail.
We have removed the tail from the original Twisted Worship skin and this update will be available on Wednesday, October 30. Descendants who have already purchased the original set will soon receive the SE version via the in-game mailbox as an additional item, while those…October 28, 2024
